1st Trip To The Pumps...

The new ride (well technically it ain't new anymore) is supposed to be a gas miser, so I'm gonna record the distance traveled with each trip to the pumps to see if the claims are true (yeah I know its anal but hey, Jeanie is back in Ipoh and I've got nothing better to do with my time... so just indulge me)...

Petrol:
Shell Super
Value of gas pumped (G): RM 54.95
Volume of gas in litres (G / 1.92 = L): 28.619 litres
Starting value on the odometer (A): 180.0 km
Ending value on the odometer (B): n/a
Total distance traveled (B - A = C): n/a
KM / L (C / L): n/a
Ratio of city driving to highway cruising: n/a to n/a

Notes:
  1. I have a rather heavy right foot, so the results will be lower than what the manufacturer claims... I am just looking for a better km/l ratio than my old car... if it its between 20% - 30% higher, I'm already a happy man!!! Please also note that the car is new and therefore uses more gas than it should... fuel economy should improve after its 15000 km service...
  2. My trunk is empty (except for the spare tyre, tools and my work bag) and there are no passengers in the car most of the time...
  3. The car is a stock vtec configuration and is not weighed down by any body kits (and other modifications) nor has it been lightened...
  4. I work 6 days a week and the primary route traveled is from Bangsar - Sunway (via NPE) - Puchong (via Sunway Toll) - Sunway - Bangsar (via NPE)...
  5. The average driving speed is approximately 95 km/h...
  6. I drive up and down 3 hills per day... both of which take approximately 3 mins to ascend / descend...
  7. The air conditioning is always on level 3 and the cd player is always on...
So lets see how it turns out... it has to be noted that my former car (Proton Wira 1.5 Automatic) manufactured in 2000 and registered in 2001) provided me with 9.66 km/l... which is like driving a bigger displacement car... heck I've seen 3 litre luxury cars which provide better fuel economy... well more money saved at the pumps = more money in the wedding fund...

I do miss the old fuel guzzler as it has served me well (albeit its share of 'screw you' moments)... I hope its new owner cares for it in the same way I did (hey I admit that I didn't wash and clean it as often as I should but at least I kept it running in tip-top condition by diligently servicing the car and making sure the internals were alright)... The old fuel guzzler will also have a special spot in my heart as it provided me with many life altering chances...

It was with the old fuel guzzler that:

  1. I drove and met Jeanie for the first time...
  2. I drove to meet Jeanie's parents for the first time...
  3. I drove to the job interview that landed me my current job (can't say I love it but who hates money???)...
I almost didn't want to trade it in at the car dealer but hey, how can I afford a new car if I didn't...

I am glad that the new car is much safer (with its host of passive and active safety items), handles better and is supposedly more fuel efficient but I do have some minor complaints...

  1. I can't see the front of the car...
  2. The rear windshield is the size of two large pizza boxes (with that I mean its small)...
  3. There is no dedicated clock in the car...
  4. There is no left footrest for the driver (I mean its weird not to have one in an automatic vehicle)...
  5. There is no water temperature meter ( I kid you not)...

Oh well... I guess you can't have it all when its a sub RM 100k car... Hmmm I wonder what car should I get next???
