Izakaya Ichiban...

"Good food, excellent service and great value" are not words that you will often find in the same sentence... But a trip to nondescript Japanese restaurant at the relatively quiet Plaza Damas will change all that...

Location map...

For a small Japanese restaurant, you will notice that they have a rather extensive menu and everything is very reasonably priced (I would even go as far as saying its wallet friendly... all their dinner sets are below rm 28.00... I mean where can you get a Sashimi set in KL for rm 25.00???)...

Proof of its "wallet-friendliness"...

I was also pleased to discover that their sake selection is HUGE (it rivals much of the larger Japanese establishments... the price is fairly close to supermarket retail prices as well... so you can get sloshed at a fraction of the cost here)...

Service was also prompt and attentive (we were served our drinks even before we got to the third page of the menu... yes dude it is that quick)...

Most importantly, the food was great... The Sashimi set I ordered consisted of a small garden salad, a chawan mushi (the steamed egg was done just right... its texture was silky smooth), assorted raw fish (really fresh), miso soup, rice and fruits... Jeanie's Hiyayako set consisted of grilled fish rubbed with salt (really well done... not too salty), chilled tofu, a chawan mushi, miso soup, rice and fruits... To ensure that we met our daily fibre intakes, we ordered a healthy salad (a mixture of radish, fried anchovies, red dates and lettuce in a flake pastry basket with a homemade fruit based sauce) with our meals... A big thumbs up to the chefs for a job well done...

Its been a while since I enjoyed my food as much as I did today... You guys should give it a try...
