Everyone knows that mass effect is a good game but, is it a great game??? Well to put it plainly its not... however, its still better than the other games that came out at the same time...
Mass effect is very "bioware" in a good way but it is that very same trait that makes the game a frustrating one... The game is riddled with bugs, lots of them... characters get stuck between tables, fall through floors, become glued to floors, can't get into vehicles, etc...
The story and voice acting are the game's biggest assets, both are wonderfully executed and the graphics are no slouch either... The film grain and motion blur options are a nice touch and makes you feel as if you're watching a sci-fi movie that has been recorded on film...
As mass effect is a bioware game, there are side quests aplenty!!! There are lots of conspiracies to uncover, people to save, evil doers to kill and lots of people for you to persuade... The variety of the side quests are nice and should keep one occupied for a long time... However, lots of the exploration bits feel like they were tacked on at the last minute and it serves to waste your time more than anything else...
There are a fair bit of variety when it comes to weapons and abilities in the game and this allows the player to play the game differently for each and every playthrough... A nice touch which not only lends to the replay factor but also it allows more plot options to unfold...
Overall, I would say that the game is a welcome distraction from the sea of mediocre games out there but seasoned players might go through the game in less than 18 hours... The plot resembles a sci-fi movie and it has the look and the sounds to match... Worth the purchase if you're a sci-fi fan... If not, you could wait for another two weeks when the next wave of games will be out...
