After weeks and weeks of waiting, my Mad Catz controller is still no where to be seen… Which essentially means that since I got my SF IV, I’ve been performing a sacrilegious act by playing it with this:
Therefore I was especially pleased when I was told that although my Mad Catz controller was delayed till the end of March, I could get my hands on the SF IV Hori Stick (Hori EX 2 skinned with SF IV decals)!!! After orchestrating an early exit from the office and braving the horrendous downtown traffic jam, I was told by the vendor that he did not anticipate the SF IV Hori Stick selling out (in the relatively short period of time from our last conversation till I got there)… As there was little hope of recourse, I left and stopped by Midvalley to try mu luck at another vendor…
It was there that I saw this:
What’s the difference between the SF IV Hori Stick and Hori Real Arcade Pro EX???
Well here are the simplified specs side by side so you can compare:
| SF IV Hori Stick | Hori Real Arcade Pro EX |
| Street Fighter IV themed artwork | Sanwa JLF-TM-8T-SK-K arcade stick |
| Hori arcade stick | Hori snap in buttons |
| Hori buttons (soldered onto PCB) | Xbox Live Communicator Port |
| USB wired for PC and 360 compatibility | Quick disconnects on wiring for buttons |
| Guide button Xbox 360/XBL navigation | USB wired for PC and Xbox 360 compatibility |
| LB and RB buttons on top control panel | Guide button for Xbox navigation |
| Button layout: | Button layout: |
| B X Y | LT X Y LB |
| A LT RT | RT A B RB |
As you can see, the Pro EX essentially has an arcade stick from Sanwa, has 8 buttons instead of 6 and has a nifty quick disconnect to avoid your 360 from being dragged off the table and onto the floor if the usb cable is tugged…
After putting it through its paces for a couple hours, I can safely say that it delivers the authentic arcade experience… as it is heavier than the EX 2, it is more sure footed on the table and feels really sturdy… The real question is the premium charged for the Pro EX justifiable???
Well, try it for an hour, I’m sure you will think so…
