The nasty experience with the belkin wireless g desktop card could have been avoided if and only if I read the label on the box… In the mad rush to purchase all the parts for the desktop (we had less than an hour to get everything), I didn’t check the box properly… There was a label on the box that said “Compatible only with Windows XP”…
I only noticed something was wrong when I took out the quick setup guide when I got home… There it was a piece of paper emblazoned with the words “DEVICE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS VISTA 32-BIT/64-BIT”…
Holy crap!!! What have I done???
A quick visit to the belkin support site, yielded some hope as there was an Vista update for revisions 1-6 of the wireless g card that I got… things were looking up I thought, until I found out that mine was revision 7.0000a… KNNCCB!!!
THERE WAS NO VISTA UPDATE FOR THE ONE I GOT!!! KNN!!!
On top of that, there was some errors reported from the network adapters as well!!! Installing the drivers for revision 6 did not help!!! A search on google however indicated that the problem might be from the motherboard drivers instead… So filled with renewed hope, I reinstalled the motherboard drivers and VIOLA!!! The error messages were gone… But the wireless adaptor was still giving problems…
I then chanced upon a technical forum that had detailed instructions on how you can “reflash” the firmware on the wireless adaptor to make it think that it was a revision 6 instead… After several misses, the reflash completed and I was able to install the device properly… All in all the nasty experience lasted slightly less than 5 hours… An experience that could have been avoided if I learned to read… I know its no one’s fault but mine, but I am gonna stay away from belkin wireless products for a while…
