Dungeon Crawling Goodness...

Its been a while since I played a "hack and slash" (the most recent one being marvel ultimate alliance for the xbox 360), so despite the less than favourable reviews, I threw caution to the wind and purchased kingdom under fire: circle of doom ("kudcod") yesterday evening... I know what you guys are thinking, I should have just given the money away or burnt it...

If you must know, kufcod is not too bad a game provided that you have a friend to play co-op with(dude I know I twisted your arm abit, but you're glad you bought it right???)... co-op is where the game shines... Players can join and leave a game anytime (provided that they are not the host or everyone is forced to save and go back to the title screen)... there are a fair mix of enemies to kill (enemies become more powerful depending on the difficulty level and the number of players)... customizing your weapons and gear never gets old and the carnage is just AWESOME!!! RAWR!!!

The Day After Valentine's...

The money has been spent, the flowers have wilted, the chocolate melted and everything is back to normal... Good thing I'm not one of those guys that gave into the darkside and spent a ridiculous amount of money on trying to woo the fairer sex...

Gabes on the other hand is one of those hopeless romantics that spent close to a month's wages on a making his partner happy... the wine flowed, hands were held in the candle light, sweet nothings were whispered but the real question is... Is she still happy today??? Hahahahaha... I guess not... clearly not from the conversation I overheard this morning... HAHAHAHA!!! So why did he even bother??? Me thinks he should have just sat his lard ass at home and played MUA with us...

Is This Supposed To Happen???

Hmmm I noticed that if you extract to a previous act in MUA via the shield access point, you have fight the mini bosses (i.e. Crimson Dynamo, Mysterio, etc) all over again (provided that you reach the trigger point) but you don't need to fight the end of level bosses (i.e. Modok, Fing Fang Doom, etc)... Is it a big deal??? Nope just thought I'd share... Oh and nothing beats kicking Mysterio's butt with a leveled character...

Where Have All The Heroes Gone???

Super Villians are running rampant!!! Where are the heroes??? Sigh... another night of being the only guy playing MUA (on my friends-list)... Time to look for all those elusive simulator discs I guess (Hmmm I guess I shouldn't complain, its better than being in the office all night ala Marauderz)...

Its Launched!!!

Haven't really had time to talk about last weekend's Windows Vista launch @ Lowyat Plaza, due to being swamped at work and kicking arse in MUA... So after much procrastination here is my take on the whole thing... (Oh before I proceed any further here's a big shout-out to Marauderz, Calvinz360 (and partner) and other associates for joining in the festivities)...

I had been waiting for the launch of Windows Vista for ages and when it finally came, it felt strange... Why did it feel strange??? Well for starters I always thought the launch would be a more robust affair (i.e. lots of passionate users, a large showing by the local developer community, etc) but it turns out the only thing that was robust was the obnoxiously loud music!!! Argh!!! My dream OS being attacked by loud rap music!!! Imagine the rage I felt... Why couldn't they get some mainstream pop artists... Some happy and upbeat music would have been nice...

Hmmm it was also interesting to note that this was the first launch I attended where we didn't get any swag bags... Nothing... Zip... ZERO!!! We want freebies at launches!!! If anyone is reading this, some t-shirts would be nice HAHAHAHAHAHA...

On a lighter note it was good to see that there were significant discounts for Windows Vista purchases over the course of the weekend... Nothing screams impulse purchase like a significant discount... Hehehehehehe... Oh in case you are wondering what the RRP for the different versions of Vista are like, you may refer to the table below (done by Marauderz because I was too lazy to do my own)

Edition Full Ver Upgrade Ver
Home Basic RM859 RM446
Home Premium RM1020 RM686
Business RM1271 RM855
ULTIMATE!!! RM1703 RM1118
Table by Marauderz @ marauderzstuff.com

The presentations were pretty well done... Most of the more user skewed features were covered in a clear and concise manner... Although a litle too much time was spent on the video wall hehehehehehehe...

It was also nice to see a sizeable crowd at the venue... Not thousands but still a crowd large enough to do the launch justice...

Well regardless of the shortcomings, Vista is still my number 1 OS choice... Have you upgraded??? Upgrade now!!!

Oh by the way, here's a video that Marauderz shot of the launch...

Kicking Super-villian Ass!!!

I've been playing lots of Marvel Ultimate Alliance lately and its been FUN, FUN, FUN!!! However there are some issues with connecting to certain players, namely theonejin and MK84... keantan and MobiusVyper just got the game as well so that has breathed some life into the game as well... Can't remember the last time I played it before the past couple of days... must be a long time as it had already accumulated layers of dust...

Busy Busy Busy...

Its been a mad mad week so far... lots of things are happening at work and I'm having trouble with several projects... The travelling has been intense and I haven't had a decent night's sleep in quite some time... I'm basically surviving on sugar from soda pop and thoughts of putting my enemies in a blender... well not so much my enemies but some people from work...

On the plus side, I've managed to clock in some gaming time this week as I get home from work late and although the body is tired, the mind can't shut down... Have been playing the two recent additions (Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Splinter Cell : Double Agent) to my collection as one consists on zombie-like senseless violence (always good after late nights in the office and you're pissed with the incompetent twat that thinks he knows better) and the other well orchestrated mind-game-like violence (its a better experience if you play Splinter Cell stealthily but I'm in a pissy mood so let me be)...

Now that I think about it, why is my body being so bitchy with me??? I mean I'm really tired when I get home, but for some obscure reason, the mind is active like a RM 2 whore when sailors are on shore leave... So in other words I get home dog tired but the brain won't switch off and let me go to sleep... Why??? Why??? Why??? Maybe its because our brains come equipped with some macabre sense of humour... Some built-in mechanism that f*cks with us that shows us what true pain is...

Or... my situation could just be the result of an over-active imagination... Who knows???

Anyway, Jeanie's product launch just concluded, so the weight is off her shoulders... Looks like she can get some much needed rest... I on the other hand will have to go out of town for an event on Sunday morning... there goes my only day of rest... I nearly blew my top when I found out that I had to go out of town again but thankfully, I found this website that has this shockwave version of Quake 3 complete with bots and sound effects...

Oh well, it looks like I'm gonna get screwed this weekend, so I might as well start bending over now...

X06...

At 5am on Sunday morning, ahbiao, his wife, Jeanie and myself started our journey (well actually not the actual journey because we went to eat breakfast at Syed first) to X06 Singapore... After travelling on the highway at ridiculous speeds and several stops for drinks and bah kut teh later, we finally reached Singapore at 11am... As there was an incident with the autopass, we were stuck at the Transport Authority till 1130am... We then proceeded to Raffles as that was venue of the event... and then we saw it... the tents that made up X06...

The white tents which looked alot smaller on the outside

First impressions that we got when we saw the tents ranged from, "Its... urm so... urm small" to "We came all this way for that???"... Thankfully, after some "negotiations" at the registration counter, we managed to claim our door gifts (I was told that we missed out on the door gifts because we didn't attend the closed door event)... When we finally got in, we were hyped but didn't see what all the fuss was about... They had game stations showcasing arcade games like Frogger, Geometry Wars, Digdug and Uno and some stations showcasing retails games like DOA4 and PDZ...But that all changed when we moved into the next tent... Gamestations were showcasing Gears of War, Crackdown, Tony Hawk Project 8, Vampire Rain, Star Trek, Viva Pinata, Need for Speed Carbon, Gundam, DOA Xtreme 2, Bionicle Heroes and Superman!!! Due to GOW, the trip was worthwhile...

GOW has to be the most immersive title I've ever played... the cutscenes and gameplay are seamless, the character models believable and life-like, the story fast-paced and exciting and the action non-stop... even ahbiao's wife and Jeanie said "PWAH!!!"

ahbiao waiting patiently to play GOW
The other games I tried didn't really cut it except for Viva Pinata... Jeanie gave it a thumbs up as well, so we'll just have to pick it up once it comes out...

I thought that Need for Speed Carbon was a little flaky as the cars felt like they were floating in the air... and they all handle in more or less the same way... hopefully the retail version has better handling characteristics for each car...

Superman, DOA Xtreme 2 and Gundam just plained sucked...

Tony Hawk was good but its just a rehash of a tried and tested formula with better graphics...

Vampire Rain was good fun but the frame rate was just bad bad bad... and it looks worse than a ps2 game...

Bionicle, Star Trek and Crackdown showed promise but they don't seem to be games that I would play for more than 30 mins...After playing the games, taking in some of the stage shows and trying to get some freebies from the EA Need for Speed Challenge, came the shopping... The last tent had some decent deals on the 360 and its games... notable mentions are new titles going for SGD 7.70 off its retail price of SGD 69.90, Xbox Live Vision + One game for SGD 84.90 and the Holiday bundle for SGD 699.00...Managed to get Splinter Cell : Double Agent and Marvel Ultimate Alliance before we proceeded for a late lunch... Much of the discussion during lunch centered around GOW and the speediest methods of getting our hands on it when it comes out...
Lunch was quickly followed by shopping at Funan and some snacking in Raffles City... no good deals around town so we proceeded back to X06 to do some serious shopping... well actually ahbiao did the serious shopping... I just watched some idiot play Totemball on stage...

By the time we got everything sorted and stuffed into the car it was past 8pm... Due to the shitload of stuff in his car we had to hold our breath at Customs because if they say the couple thousand SGD worth of merchandise, we would have been bitch slapped with a blinking huge tax invoice...

Some turbo vrrOOOooM later, we were back slightly past midnight... Not bad for a Sunday, don't you think???
All my swag from X06
