Disbanded???

I used to rush home after work to grab a quick dinner so that I could get on xbl to play halo 2 with the same bunch of guys every night... It was grand... The battles were epic, the action thick and fast and everyone had a good time whether they were on the winning team or not... As time moved on, the lineup changed:

  1. ahdi's halo 2 disc was involved in a mishap rendering it unreadable;
  2. PJ had to go to england to further his studies;
  3. robinlkm sold his box;
  4. MasteRKost0N was called back to God for a greater purpose;
  5. ed1001, ahbiao and djinn opened their store so they didn't have their own boxes at home anymore;
  6. MarauderzMY's son came into the world;
  7. paanjang16 started work;
  8. Merdeka got busy with work I guess;
  9. MobiusVyper and keantan started getting busy with school; and
  10. tintin00 and xplor3r got busy at work

I'm not saying that I'm gaming less now because the old gang is gaming less, I'm saying that those were the good times and they flew by far too quickly... You never truly appreciate things till they are gone I guess...I just hope the current crop of players will stick around for a while longer...

Oh Its Here...

Ahbiao and company got back from Singapore today with their stash of Halo 3 Limited Ed, and their sale kicked off slightly before 9.00 pm... here are some pics... Oh and before you get the wrong idea, I was there to have dinner with Kinky Nicky and I only stayed there for 5 minutes to get the pics below...

And when I called Kinky Nicky just now, I found out that he was the first guy in the line to end up with scratched discs hahahahahahaha...

Its Ironic Isn't It???

GOW will be available at Gamer's Hideout after 12.00 PM today... the thing that is a kick in the pants is, I won't be around to pick it up... Lovely... just lovely... Good thing that Marauderz will be able to pick it up for me... Imagine how pissy I would be if someone at the store "accidentally" sold my copy... You can never be too careful these days...

Emergence Day My Ass...

In case you haven't heard, Gamer's Hideout will only be getting their supply of GOW tomorrow... so there goes my evening of hedonistic violence... don't even get me started on COD3... in all fairness, its not their fault... Really it ain't... But it still doesn't change the fact that it ain't here when it ought to be... Sigh... Can't be helped I guess...

Emergence Day???

Gears of War (GOW) will be available at Gamer's Hideout after 5.00 PM tomorrow (Emergence Day in Singapore) in both flavours!!! Best to rush there to get your hands on the coveted limited edition or plain vanilla version to avoid disappointment... Personally I can't wait to get my hands on it as playing the demo at X06, got me hooked and in need of more of its tense "pop and cap" gameplay... I think GOW will keep me busy for the coming weeks... That is until I get so sick of it that I never want to see it for months (ala Enchant Arm)...

Call of Duty 3 (COD3) will also be available at Gamer's Hideout tomorrow... More WW2 carnage and slow as a snail tanks!!! Sigh... nothing blowing up stuff with old school grenades...

So many games so little time... I'm not even halfway through my SCDA or MUA yet... Hmm I wonder if anyone is up for a little MUA action tonight... Jeanie will be working late so I can game as soon as I finish dinner...

X06...

At 5am on Sunday morning, ahbiao, his wife, Jeanie and myself started our journey (well actually not the actual journey because we went to eat breakfast at Syed first) to X06 Singapore... After travelling on the highway at ridiculous speeds and several stops for drinks and bah kut teh later, we finally reached Singapore at 11am... As there was an incident with the autopass, we were stuck at the Transport Authority till 1130am... We then proceeded to Raffles as that was venue of the event... and then we saw it... the tents that made up X06...

The white tents which looked alot smaller on the outside

First impressions that we got when we saw the tents ranged from, "Its... urm so... urm small" to "We came all this way for that???"... Thankfully, after some "negotiations" at the registration counter, we managed to claim our door gifts (I was told that we missed out on the door gifts because we didn't attend the closed door event)... When we finally got in, we were hyped but didn't see what all the fuss was about... They had game stations showcasing arcade games like Frogger, Geometry Wars, Digdug and Uno and some stations showcasing retails games like DOA4 and PDZ...But that all changed when we moved into the next tent... Gamestations were showcasing Gears of War, Crackdown, Tony Hawk Project 8, Vampire Rain, Star Trek, Viva Pinata, Need for Speed Carbon, Gundam, DOA Xtreme 2, Bionicle Heroes and Superman!!! Due to GOW, the trip was worthwhile...

GOW has to be the most immersive title I've ever played... the cutscenes and gameplay are seamless, the character models believable and life-like, the story fast-paced and exciting and the action non-stop... even ahbiao's wife and Jeanie said "PWAH!!!"

ahbiao waiting patiently to play GOW
The other games I tried didn't really cut it except for Viva Pinata... Jeanie gave it a thumbs up as well, so we'll just have to pick it up once it comes out...

I thought that Need for Speed Carbon was a little flaky as the cars felt like they were floating in the air... and they all handle in more or less the same way... hopefully the retail version has better handling characteristics for each car...

Superman, DOA Xtreme 2 and Gundam just plained sucked...

Tony Hawk was good but its just a rehash of a tried and tested formula with better graphics...

Vampire Rain was good fun but the frame rate was just bad bad bad... and it looks worse than a ps2 game...

Bionicle, Star Trek and Crackdown showed promise but they don't seem to be games that I would play for more than 30 mins...After playing the games, taking in some of the stage shows and trying to get some freebies from the EA Need for Speed Challenge, came the shopping... The last tent had some decent deals on the 360 and its games... notable mentions are new titles going for SGD 7.70 off its retail price of SGD 69.90, Xbox Live Vision + One game for SGD 84.90 and the Holiday bundle for SGD 699.00...Managed to get Splinter Cell : Double Agent and Marvel Ultimate Alliance before we proceeded for a late lunch... Much of the discussion during lunch centered around GOW and the speediest methods of getting our hands on it when it comes out...
Lunch was quickly followed by shopping at Funan and some snacking in Raffles City... no good deals around town so we proceeded back to X06 to do some serious shopping... well actually ahbiao did the serious shopping... I just watched some idiot play Totemball on stage...

By the time we got everything sorted and stuffed into the car it was past 8pm... Due to the shitload of stuff in his car we had to hold our breath at Customs because if they say the couple thousand SGD worth of merchandise, we would have been bitch slapped with a blinking huge tax invoice...

Some turbo vrrOOOooM later, we were back slightly past midnight... Not bad for a Sunday, don't you think???
All my swag from X06

Whoops!!!

I can't believe I left out pics of ahbiao!!! I just hope no one has a bitch fit...

Sidenote: The pics are slightly clearer because they were shot with a different cam phone... Techno lust overpowered me again (Yes mom... I know I am a gadget whore... I tried to resist, but it was too hard)...

Well in my defence I would like to state for the record that I never planned to get a new phone... honest!!! Its true!!! Well it was like this, Jeanie needed a new phone, and urm Vincent knew this guy that could get a good deal on Nokia phones... so we went off to Klang... Jeanie spent some time mulling over the N73 and N80 and finally got the N80... I was bored and looked at the N93 and then it happened... I heard this voice in my head... its true... clear as day it was... it told me to buy it so that some Finnish chap could keep his job... Wanting to do the right thing... I complied...

Before anyone starts bitching about the vulgar price of the N93, please be reminded that Vincent got us a good deal and they accepted my 6680 as part payment for the new phone... So I didn't spend that much...

Ceteris Peribus...

It was a long frustrating day in the office, so I fired up halo 2 immediately when I got home... No one was on except ahbiao so we played a couple 1 vs 1 matches just to blow some steam... of the games we played, two stood out... the two games stood out because it showed that all else being constant (ceteris peribus), the map does play a pivotal role in determining the outcome...

On the warlock map I got my ass handed to me big time... I mean I was practically whipped into submission... 14 to 4 it was... The score would have been much higher if not for the 8 minute time limit... ahbiao moved well and used the structures on the map to dodge most of my shots before jumping in for some close range kills when I was reloading... overall a rather humbling match...

On midship... things were very different... I clearly cannot match ahbiao in terms of raw skill and experience but the playing field was leveled somewhat due to the general layout of the weapons on the map... I always feel more comfortable on midship because I know that everything I need or want is in close proximity and the fact that the weapons on the map suit my so called "playing style" is a plus...
